Q&A

What are you doing to practice and promote soil and water quality?

1. Strip Till Corn 2. No-Till Soybeans 3. Cereal Rye Cover crops 4. Water way construction and reshaping 5. Filter strips along sensitive creeks/streams 6. CRP for non-productive areas

What is being done in your county to support soil and water quality?

Many of the same practices. The soil and water commissioners along with the NRCS are implementing programs to encourage new seedings of cover crops, EQIP programs and filter strips.

What could be done with more public funding for soil and water quality?

Increased public funding could be utilized to promote new practices with growers not currently engaged in soil and water quality programs. It could also help spread these practices over more acres. A big limiter of practice change is usually cost associated with the practice. Cost sharing is always a good gateway to practice change. More funding could also help to research new practices and standard programs going forward.
