Q&A
What are you doing to practice and promote soil and water quality?
On our farm we only farm the ground that don’t erode easily. Which is the ridge and the bottoms. The side hills are in pasture ground. This ground is utilized by our cows and sheep. We are a no-till farm since 1990 and have been using strip till since 2015 for our fertilizer placement while farming on the contours. On our farm we have five ponds to water our livestock and manage run off of extra water.
What is being done in your county to support soil and water quality?
Our county is heavily involved using Equip funding, utilizing, no-till, cover crops and water sheds containment. Many areas that are prone to erosion and not conducive to row crop are seeded down or are pastures.
What could be done with more public funding for soil and water quality?
Educate farmers on how to incorporate conservation into their farm.
