What needs for soil health and water quality do you see in your region/county?
We've been gifted an opportunity to farm this ground, and we fully embrace the idea that we're borrowing the ground from our children. So, it only makes sense to protect their asset. Mark Twain said it best about land, "they're not making any more of it." So on our farm, we've been trialing different products and practices to see what is the best fit for us and this ground's future.
What could be done with more public funding for soil and water quality?
I've never met a farmer who isn't proud. And I feel that we should spend some money on education and tools because farmers will develop their unique way to solve a problem. By trade, farmers are master engineers. So if we give them the tools, tell them that there's a problem, and buy into it, they will come up with their own solutions to the problem. But if the farmer doesn't believe there's a problem or understand that the problem exists, then we're just dumping money into regulated programs that won't be highly effective.
